“We are currently working as Quantity Surveyors to the Main Contractor on the Bracken Hide Hotel – a bespoke hotel scheme in Portree, Isle of Skye. The project consists of 27 guest accommodation pods, a sauna building and a main hub building containing a restaurant and whisky bar.
DGA provided initial tender costings for the Main Contractor to help them secure the scheme. Once on site, DGA have been responsible for monthly contractor valuations, subcontractor procurement and value engineering on this unique and ever developing design.”

What occurred
We tendered the scheme on behalf of the contractor. Helped value engineer tender in line with budget. Helped with procurement in a remote location. Helped track costs using a mechanism similar to cost plus.
What was interesting
No other buildings like this – unique appearance and remote tourist hotspot. 27 accommodation pods, main hub building (including whiskey room and restaurant) and Finnish sauna building.

DGA initially assisted the Main Contractor in securing the project by compiling a thorough and competitively priced tender submission.
Now that the project is on site, part of DGA’s role is to ensure the Main Contractor’s works remain profitable once variations are instructed. This is particularly prevalent given the bespoke and detailed nature of the project’s design.
